In Australia, the leading cause of death and disability for women is dementia, with women being twice as likely to be diagnosed than men.
In this presentation, Dr Long will explain the need for targeted health prevention strategies to reduce womens' risks of developing dementia, and recommends the incorporation of a brain health check as part of a midlife health check.
About the Expert
Dr Marita Long
Dr Marita Long is a Victorian-based GP working 4 days a week in clinical practice and 1 day a week in medical education. She is a current committee member for the Australian Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology, an active member of the RACGP and has served on the board of The Link - an adolescent health service in Hobart. Marita has developed and delivered many educational, face-to-face and online workshops and is passionate about upskilling GPs to deliver the best evidence-based care to patients, especially women, who so often feel their voices aren’t heard.
