About this Presentation
Iron deficiency is extremely common and is under-recognised, especially in younger women. Sources of iron from foods are often not well understood and this plus menstruation are the most common causes of iron deficiency in Australia. Patients are often not educated about how to maximise iron absorption from their diet and iron tablets, and may also not be informed about side-effects. Lack of this information may lead to reduced compliance and ongoing iron deficiency.
