About this Presentation

Nipple pain in breastfeeding women is common and under-researched. The two most likely causes of this pain are epithelial inflammation from mechanical strain and deformational forces on the nipple and breast, and moisture-associated skin damage. The management of nipple pain in breastfeeding is primarily aimed at preventing these causes and identifying any other less likely contributing or causal factors, such as infection.
