Iron deficiency is the commonest cause of maternal anaemia. There is increasing evidence about the adverse effects of maternal iron deficiency on foetal neurodevelopment. This presentation will discuss the latest evidence for the management of iron deficiency in pregnancy, including optimal oral iron dosing and administration, when to consider IV iron, and discuss the latest guideline recommendations.

Dr Eslick is a Staff Specialist Haematologist at Canberra Hospital and has consulting rooms at National Capital Private Hospital. She has a special interest in haematological disorders affecting women's health and is an accredited obstetric physician. She has a passion for medical education and is the Network Director of Physician Education for Canberra Health Services, and the Vice Chair of the Early Career Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
