About this Presentation
Lactose intolerance is a quality of life issue for those who have it, and there is a large range of differential diagnoses. There are many tests suggested in general practice to try to diagnose lactose intolerance, but they are inappropriate for this condition and will typically detect the lactose malabsorption. The gold standard is an elimination of lactose from the diet and careful re-introduction of lactose, with monitoring for symptom recurrence.
